Hello !

You don’t know me, but hopefully soon you will! I’ve decided to start blogging a bit and sharing my art process and projects here, as well as some of my other related interests. I also have a couple of really big projects I’m working on that I can’t wait to share with you!

But first, a quick, getting-to-know-you post: I’ve been working as an artist and illustrator for 21 years. But of course, art was part of my life pretty much from the beginning. I could spend all day wandering almost any art museum. I’m especially fond of Art Nouveau, Pre-Raphaelite/Romanticism, Neo-classicism, and Mannerism. (That’s a lot of –isms!) Sometimes those influences show up in my art.

Some of my work inspired by Art Nouveau & Children’s book Illustration: Mermaid, Cat Nouveau 1 & Cat Nouveau 2, Faerie

I’m also inspired by a lot of book illustrators. I love art that tells a story and Books are one of my life-long loves. I’ve recently been trying to make reading a priority again so there will likely be some book content in this blog. I also love tarot cards. They are not only like being able to carry an entire art gallery around in your pocket, they are also a great tool for self-reflection and self-discovery. So Tarot will definitely be making appearances here.

I am a big fan of spooky stuff and the Autumn season which we are just starting! I love traveling, especially to places with rich history, museums, and great food. I enjoy cooking and baking, and I can sew. I love water – lakes, rivers, oceans, all of it, even rain and storms. I love dragons and cats. I’m a tail-end Gen X-er and have been a geek all my life. I’m a perfectionist, and so I tend to procrastinate like crazy.

I married my best friend (cliché I know, but true!) and we have a daughter who is growing up in the blink of an eye. My husband and I are in the middle of fixing up an older house and I love decorating and making things beautiful. My family and I love movie nights, especially at the drive in, and table top games.

All of these things might come up in my posts and you may see a lot of these elements in my art, too. I would love some input now and as I go:

What would you like me to talk about?
